Many parents make the mistake of trying to persuade a young child to throw a cast net too early. If they are only 4 years old and start getting frustrated by not being able to throw a cast net, then they might avoid fishing because of it.
What we have seen time and time again is how easy (and exciting) it is for really young kids to just take a dip net and hit the water. Whether it be netting tadpoles or minnows in a lake or pond or netting small bait fish and crabs in the saltwater, small dip nets are some of the best nets you can give a kid to start.
A small dip net can sometimes become a better investment than an actual rod and reel for young kids (5 and under).

Once your kid masters the dip net, they will most likely start begging you to let them try a bigger net (like a cast net) as they get a little bit older.
