Cheap Mic vs Expensive Mic (How Much Does Price Affect Sound Quality?)
Today, in the Audio Hotline Studio we are doing a bit of a comparison mixed with an experiment. In this episode, I take an expensive mic and put it against a cheap microphone. I also, put a couple microphones closer in price against each other as well. The point of this is to find out just how much the quality boosts between different price brackets. Another big part of this video is so people can just listen to the different mics and hear the quality of them rather than worrying about the brand name or model number! Everyone expects certain brands to be better than others, so I wanted to take that possibility away.
This is obviously not a perfect experiment, there are flaws in it, but the main thing I want people to take away is that they shouldn't be too focused on the price of their gear. If you think your gear is crappy and it's keeping you from starting to create podcasts, music, YouTube channel, voice-over, gaming, etc... Then I have two words for you... START ANYWAY! Use the gear you have to start creating, even if it isn't great gear. The most important thing is to start creating. The biggest reason why is that you can't get better at something you haven't started. So by starting, even with bad gear, you are going to learn so much. At that point, you can determine whether or not it is something you want to continue... THEN make the choice to invest in yourself and level up on gear!
Even though it is a bit cheesy at times, I hope this video helps you out and helps you decide what microphone price bracket you want to buy into.
