Inter-VLAN routing is the process of forwarding network traffic from one VLAN to another VLAN.
Inter-VLAN routing refers to the movement of packets across the network between hosts in different network segments. VLANs make it easier for one to segment a network, which in turn improves the performance of the network and makes it more flexible, since they are logical connections
disadvantage of using router-on-a-stick inter-VLAN...
does not support VLAN-tagged packets.
requires the use of more physical interfaces than legacy inter-VLAN routing.
does not scale well beyond 50 VLANs.
requires the use of multiple router interfaces configured to operate as access links.
Advantages. Networks that utilize router on a stick benefit from only requiring one LAN connection to be used for multiple VLANs, i.e. the number of VLANs are not limited by the number of LAN ports available. Separation of network connections do not respond to the physical location of the ports on the router.
