We've all heard that to be successful, you need a detailed plan. But what if that conventional wisdom is wrong?
In this episode of Radical Candor, I explain why extensive upfront planning can actually prevent progress and success. I know, it sounds counterintuitive. But hear me out!
I share an example from my corporate marketing days where leadership gave us unrealistic goals without considering the actual work required. Spoiler alert!! Their flawed plan was destined to fail.
Overthinking everything in advance often leads to analysis paralysis. You get caught up in the dream of spreadsheets and perfect models rather than gaining real-world experience.
My advice? Get started creating as soon as possible. You'll learn infinitely more by doing than just theorizing. Fail if you need to, and then develop a plan based on hard-won experience.
Don't let the allure of planning everything upfront stop you from making progress. Start that project today, even if you don't have every detail nailed down. You can, should and WILL course correct later.
