💈Authentic Old-School Mexican Barbershop | 81-Year-Old Barber’s Calming Shave & Talking! 🇲🇽
Before leaving Mexico City, we filmed a wet shave and trim with a lovely old school barber named Mr. Porfirio Flores González 💈🙌🏼 La Bohemia is a classic Mexican barbershop from the 1960s located near Mercado Jamaica 🌺🌻
Originally from Oaxaca, Mr. Porfirio is 81 years old. As a kid, he grew up working in the countryside fields.
In search of a better future, Mr. Porfirio came to Mexico City in 1963. He remembers the long train ride with people selling tamales, tacos, and pulque along the way 🚃 The seats were wooden so even as a young man he felt pretty rough by the time he arrived in the city.
He told us the government is planning to reopen the passenger train to Oaxaca. So he is very excited to have the opportunity to ride a train home again, especially as the seats will be cushioned! 😊

Looking back, Mr. Porfirio has fond memories of Mexico City with the old crocodile and parrot taxis (cocodrilos & cotorras 🚖), and back then a haircut cost only 4 pesos! 💇🏻♂️
When he was learning barbering in Oaxaca, there was no electricity therefore, he worked with manual clippers. He still has some of the clippers in his current shop which he eagerly showed to us. In 1979, Mr. Porfirio became the 3rd owner of La Bohemia barbershop. He says the shop was opened in the 60s.
✨ His life advice: Find work that you love doing. Respect yourself. Respect your work. Respect your customers.
He loves barbering and conversations with his customers ❤️ Typically, he plays classical music in his shop to create a relaxing atmosphere.
