Common Ground Webinar: Seafood Import Monitoring Program
Hear from diverse Seafood Import Monitoring Program (SIMP) stakeholders on solutions to issues facing the US seafood import program.
BACKGROUND: In the fall of 2022 and summer of 2023, FishWise convened a series of three SIMP roundtable discussions. The purpose of these roundtables was to bring together importers, customs brokers, and representatives from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to explore each group's unique experiences with SIMP. These Common Ground roundtables provided a platform for stakeholders to address challenges related to SIMP data collection, compliance costs, audit process, program requirements, and supply chain capacity building. Building upon FishWise's previous industry outreach that began in 2018, these dialogues aimed to identify solutions outside of formal rulemaking that would positively impact SIMP implementation and compliance efforts and foster inclusive opportunities for policy engagement.
