Meet the African who contributed to the establishment of Islam in Syria - Bilal Ibn Rabah. Bilal ibn Rabah al-Habashi, born in 580 in Mecca, was a remarkable figure in Islamic history. Born into slavery, he became the first person of African ancestry to embrace Islam. Bilal ibn Rabah accompanied Prophet Muhammad in military expeditions, including the pivotal battles of Badr, Uhud, and the Trench. In 622, he migrated with the Prophet and the Muslim community to Medina. Bilal ibn Rabah was of a handsome and impressive stature, dark brown complexion with sparkling eyes, a fine nose and vibrant skin. Renowned for his noble character, Bilal ibn Rabah was appointed as the minister of the Treasury and the first prayer caller. After the Prophet's passing, Bilal moved to Damascus, Syria, contributing to the establishment of Islam in that region. His exact death date is debated, but his legacy endures.
