This video provides ten review and discussion questions to help you understand p-values and hypothesis tests better.
Here are the questions, if you would like to try them ahead of watching the video.
They are all true or false statements.
1. The p-value is used mainly for t-tests for the value of a mean.
2. P-values are generally calculated by computer packages, and are difficult to calculate by hand.
3. The p-value tells us how much evidence we have to reject the null hypothesis.
4. A p-value can be used to evaluate population data and samples.
5. The smaller the p-value, the stronger the effect or relationship is.
6. If we use a significance level of 0.05, then we will reject the null hypothesis about 5% of the time.
7. The size of the sample affects the p-value.
8. Two students each took a random sample of advertisements for used cars to explore the relationship between price and the distance travelled. Both students got significant results but the p-values were different between the samples. This is to be expected.
9. 'The value of the p-value does not tell us whether our result is statistically significant.
10. Sometimes a computer output will give the p-value as 0.000. This means that the computer has made an error.
