This week On the Road to Emmaus, our year-long pilgrimage through the Holy Mass, Bishop Earl Boyea moves beyond the Sign of Peace to reach the Fraction during the Communion Rite at Mass.
The Fraction or fractio panis, Latin for "breaking of the bread", is the moment when the priest drops a fragment of the Sacred Host into the Precious Blood contained within the chalice and quietly recites the following prayer: “May this mingling of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ bring eternal life to us who receive it.” This is among the last spiritual preparations made before receiving Holy Communion. So what's going on? Watch and find out.
Meanwhile, Bishop Boyea introduces Jeremy Priest, Director of the Office of Worship for the Diocese of Lansing, who explains how we can receive Holy Communion in a worthy fashion and in a state of grace. We hope you find this film worthwhile.
