A tunnel of more than 10 km (6.65 miles) long, but not just any tunnel, an underwater tunnel built in China, to be precise in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu, about 50 kilometers east of Shanghai. The Taihu-tunnel cost 9.9 billion yuan (about $1.56 billion) and construction began in 2018. In the meantime, the tunnel has been open for a few years now, as the first car drove through it at the end of 2021. Let's take a look at how this came about.
