(Video 9 of several) We continue exploring the Laplace transform by introducing the Heaviside function, also known as the unit step function. This function, despite its simplicity, is pivotal in representing jump discontinuities and is widely used in controlling when a signal, like an external forcing function, is applied to a system. We graph some variations of the Heaviside functino then discuss how it can be used to delay the application of a signal in a physical model, like a harmonic oscillator. Lastly we look at how this control affects the Laplace transform of the signal. Examples in the next video!
