The UN says at least 234 people have been killed or injured in gang violence in Haiti in just four days.
The unrest between two rival factions erupted in a poor and densely populated neighbourhood of the capital Port-au-Prince. The city's police failed to contain the violence - leaving residents trapped in their homes, unable to go out even to buy food and water. According to local media, some residents were hit by stray bullets, and ambulances were unable to reach those in need.
