Govt data has shown that Delhi has more active black fungus cases than COVID-19 cases. Black fungus is a rare and deadly fungal infection affecting recovering COVID-19 patients. Delhi had 952 active cases of black fungus or mucormycosis on July 06, 2021. But the state registered only 883 active COVID-19 cases during the same period. The total number of black fungus cases in Delhi stood at 1,656. The Delhi government has reported a shortage of amphotericin-B injections. This injection is crucial for the treatment of mucormycosis. The total requirement of amphotericin-B in Delhi is around 1.5 lakh. A black fungus patient needs 120-150 injections for a month to fully recover. The black fungus was declared an epidemic by the Delhi government onMar 27, 2021. India had registered 40,845 black fungus cases until 28 June and 3,129 people have died from the infection.
