Most of the time when we are screaming our vices, when we're screaming vulgarity, what we're actually saying is "help me. I need help" You can see this when you think about bullies, most of the time when they are saying horrific things to others it's because they are in pain themselves. Or addicts when they are screaming that they need another hit and will do anything to get that fix, they are actually yelling "help me." This song is so powerful because it invites us to ask ourselves the question of "Do you only hear the vulgarity or can you hear the quiet cry for help underneath it?" When you are acting out, yelling, saying inappropriate things can you hear the "I'm in pain." in your own story and in the story of others. This is vital because when you realize that the reason someone is doing something is because they are in pain it changes the way you respond to the person.
