Back in the day, one of the best ways of marketing a game was a demo. However, these types of demos are pretty much a thing of the past. Most modern games skip demos in exchange for the numerous newer ways of marketing a game to people. Indie game developers still need to try and hook people in since it’s a lot harder to get eyes on your project compared to the hundreds of indies already on places like Steam. Things like Steam Next Fest happen multiple times per year and is a great way to find new and interesting games you’ve never heard of before. Some of these games aren’t even demos, they are just small 20-30 minute experiences that can be completed for free.
