Sight words should be words that children don't need to sound out with phonics, they just know the words and continue reading. Knowing jump out words or sight words promotes reading fluency. Students read fluently when they don't have to stop and sound out words, they can just identify the jump out word by sight.
I thought of the phrase jump out words because when children see them they just jump out in their mind that they know this high frequency word. This version of Jump Out Words has Jack spelling and saying the jump out word twice as students repeat the jump out word each time.
