Clavicus Vile, the Daedric Prince of Trickery and Bargains, made a deal with a conjurer, named Sebastien Lort, who you can actually battle in Skyrim! Sebastien had a daughter who became a devout worshipper of Hircine, and she was cursed with lycanthropy. She became a werewolf! Her father could not bear this, and so prayed to Clavicus Vile for his aid. Clavicus bestowed upon him the cure he thought most fitting, The Rueful Axe - a double bladed weapon designed for slaying werewolves.
