This tutorial will guide you through the process of creating an old water tower model using 3ds Max. The modeling and texturing process is covered in detail, starting with the creation of a proxy model inside of 3ds max. During this stage we will block out the tower structure using simple geometry and then go through the process of adding resolution and detail, to create an aged weathered look. We'll make use of some simple poly modeling techniques as well as Max's paint deformation tools to create the desired effect. ;
From there we'll discuss some tips on keeping organized when unwrapping and packing UV's as well as exporting our model out of Max. We will then go through the process of baking out an ambient occlusion map using xNormal, and move into Photoshop to create our Diffuse, Bump and Specular maps. Setting up a three point lighting system, shader assembly and creating a final render are also covered.
