Katie Lee is a certified genetic counselor (CGC) with over five years of practice in reproductive medicine. She has worked for one of the most well-known IVF clinics in the United States and also for a genetic testing laboratory that offered fertility related genetic testing. Katie Lee has recurrent pregnancy loss and has experienced five miscarriages; despite an extensive work-up she still doesn't know why. Today she discussed emotional cushioning, a coping strategy that has been identified in women who are pregnant following a misarrange. The New York Times published an article called, "What to Expect When You're Expecting the Worst" this week. It is describes the phenomenon of emotional cushioning. Emotional cushioning is a set of self-protective strategies that people who have lost pregnancies commonly use to cope with the stress and anxiety of later ones.
