The concept of equanimity is defined as keeping cool under all circumstances, not letting emotions control you, and balancing emotions. Kunapas (Kimnite) notes that equanimity is becoming more important in an age where mental health issues are increasingly romanticized on social media. The speaker was introduced to equanimity through the teachings of William Osler, a humanist physician. Kimnite has put this concept into practice during her school’s drama project, realizing that diplomacy is radiant. The speaker also cites Marcus Aurelius as an example of a leader who persevered through mindfulness and meditation and who did not let fear or emotions distort his perception of reality. Kunapas (Kimnite) Sumpunwetchakul, the speaker of the TedxTalk “Equanimity and Its Role in Leadership”, is a carefree high school student. She is involved in almost all of the clubs at her school, The Newton Sixth Form, and has a wide range of interests, including art, psychology, and philosophy. When she is not studying for her A Level exams, she indulges in self-help books or Korean dramas. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
