Having performed several thousand onsite lawn assesssment i've create a 5 step lawn diagnostic approach. Today we are talking specifically about summer lawn problems. This is a great lawn care for beginners guide to help you diagnose and take the guess work out of summer lawn problems.
The most common lawn problem I see is brown hazy grass. As summer day time temperatures rise we see the evaporation rate go up. As a result the grass goes brown due to a lack of water.
Many times we see grass that goes orange due to a lack of water after a fresh fertilizer service.
As far as patterns go, lack of water patterns usually are uniform or random in nature. random patterns often have rounded corners surrounded by green grass. This happens due to the sprinklers properly watering some of the grass and not watering all of it evenly. The best way to fix this is by running a water output cup test. This simple test will show you where you need to make the proper sprinkler adjustments.
