Here's a short video to talk about the Asus ROG Ally's battery life, which is unfortunately awful. Unless you're running low intensity games or have tweaked the settings in order to minimise power and maximise performance. So I've been testing out a few different settings to see what works.

Obviously with the Asus ROG Ally being a more powerful gaming handheld than the Steam Deck (   • The Steam Deck sucks because it's too...  ) you'd expect it to run better. It does too, with a 1080p screen and 120Hz refresh rate and modes that promise more FPS than the Steam Deck. But if you've bought it because you want to crank all those settings up and enjoy some nice visuals and reasonable FPS then you might well be disappointed with the battery life. I did this with a few games and only managed to use the ROG Ally for an hour before it ran out of battery. Which sucks.

But here are some things you can do to help it.
- Make sure your ROG Ally is updated with both Windows updates and Armoury Crate SE
- In Windows, open the command center and tap to set it to 720p before you launch the game
- Turn AMD RSR on before you launch your game

Then try these settings via Command Center:
- Operating mode - 15w Performance mode
- FPS Limiter on - set to 60 FPS or lower
- Resolution - set to 720p
- Refresh Rate - set to 60Hz
- AMD RSR (Re-sizable bar) - set to on

Now when you launch your game:
- Set video or graphics resolution to 1280x720
- Set graphics to medium
- Limit the frame rate to 60 FPS
- Turn on AMD FSR if available (note "balanced" is best as performance sucks for graphics)
- Alternatively, try Intel XeSS (that works with all systems)

Now obviously these settings won't make the most of the mega fancy screen, but FSR and RSR will help upscale the visuals still. So you should get good graphics. If you don't then turn FSR OFF. It's worth experimenting with these things.

Note, Asus says that the 9watt silent performance mode will give you the best battery life. And indeed when I used it I managed to get two and a half hours out of it before it died. BUT and it's a big BUT, I only got 24 FPS in Forza and the same in Sea of Thieves.
Now, if you play indie games or less intensive titles then that might well be a solution as it'll be less power hungry and you should still get a smooth experience, but I think it's worth noting!
