In 1853, Panmure Head Lighthouse became PEI's first wooden lighthouse and the second lighthouse to be built on the Island. The structure is fifty-eight feet tall from its base to vane. The octagonal tower on Panmure Island is supported by a stone foundation and was built with heavy timbers using techniques employed by the local shipbuilding industry such as the use of wooden pegs or trunnels.
