The MG4 (German: Heckler & Koch MG4 (Maschinengewehr), also known as the HK123) is a hand-held machine gun manufactured by Heckler & Koch GmbH. It was developed since the second half of the 1990s. Its first prototype was released in 2001.
The HK MG4 hand machine gun was developed by the well-known German company Heckler-Koch since the second half of the 1990s, and its prototype was first shown to the General public in 2001. The new machine gun became a direct competitor to such a popular model as the Belgian FN Minimi / M249 SAW, and is intended for the same role - light and mobile fire support weapons at the level of the infantry Department.
This machine gun was adopted in 2003 by the Bundeswehr (German Army) under the designation MG4, and in 2007 the first export contract was signed with Spain. In the German army, the MG4 will gradually replace the heavier, but also more powerful, single 7.62 mm NATO MG3 machine gun used in the manual role. [1]
