Two new giant sea bass are swimming into Kelp Forest in the Oceans gallery!
Currently weighing in at over 47 pounds at four years old, these spotted apex predators have been known to grow over seven feet long, with the largest recorded coming in at 563 pounds and nine feet in length!
Their native kelp forest habitat provides excellent coverage to hide from the occasional shark or sea lion predator. Otherwise, these striking yet critically endangered fish sit at the top of the food chain, eating stingrays, lobsters, crabs, squids, flatfishes and even small sharks.
The sea bass are exploring their new home among other animals in Kelp Forest. Make sure to welcome them during your next visit!
