This video exhibits new interactive features of Webots Simulation Software (Cyberbotics Ltd.). Observe how physics interactivity is increased with the ability to add forces and torques on the fly and in a very intuitive way.
The Webots 6.4 release gives you the capacity to add a custom force to a solid selected in the 3D scene when then simulation is running. And it is as simple as a mouse drag! Left click on the point where you want to apply the force and then drag your mouse to draw the force on the screen.
Of course, you can also stop the simulation to draw your force. Then you will be in position to check its direction by navigating into the scene; the force will be unleashed when restarting the simulation. In Webots 7, the magnitude of the force will be displayed in the status bar, so that you can keep a fair control on the deployed intensity.
It is also easy for you to make an object spin around a custom axis by adding a torque to it. Just draw this axis on the screen with your mouse and see the object rotating as desired.
These new features are documented in the Webots User Guide, an online manual offering a tutorial as well as many examples. If you are aiming at a total control of physics parameters, note that forces and torques can be added by means of a program called physics plugin.
A 30-day trial version of Webots is available on the Cyberbotics website.
