In Better Know a Node, we'll take a quick look at various blueprint and material nodes within the Unreal Engine to "better know" how they work and when to use them.

In this episode of Better Know a Node, we breakdown the Per Instance Random material node.

The PerInstanceRandom node provides a random float value between 0 and 1 in its output for each instance within an instanced static mesh and can be used to create more variation within the material shader for individual instances.

For example, when using the foliage tool on a landscape in Unreal, the PerInstanceRandom node can provide more variation in the material of grass, flowers, and other landscape foliage.

If you have any questions about the PerInstanceRandom node within Unreal Engine 4 or Unreal Engine 5, would like to share a use case for the PerInstanceRandom node, or want to suggest another node for a future episode, be sure the comment below!
