"From captivity from Izmail" - song about Ukrainian cossacks
Song is inspired by real historical event: in 1675 famous Ukrainian cossack commander Ivan Sirko led campaign to Crimea. Cossacks freed from captivity seven thousand Ukrainians, but three thousand of them refused to return to Ukraine because during years living in Crimean Khanate they became muslims and married Tatar women. Ivan Sirko got angry with this traitors of Motherland and Orthodox Christianity, but he allowed to everyone return back if he want, just asking to think carefully about it. When they moved far away, he ordered to cossacks to overtake them and kill them all. Izmail is a city in Southern Besarabia, Odesa region, in cossack times it was a part of Crimean Khanate.
