Handbrake for Ubuntu Linux is a useful GUI for renencoding video and audio clips using different codecs and containers in order to attempt to lower their file size. I demonstrated how this works on a quick test clip.
File size reduction on test clip:
Export 1: Kdenlive MP4-H264/AAC = 10.4 Mb
Export 2: Transcoding via Handbrake web optimization = 8.1 Mb
Reduction in file size = 2.3 Mb
Reduction in file size = 22%
