Instagram Live Producer via OBS Studio with the Aitum Vertical Plugin
Instagram have rolled out greater access to their Live Producer functionality which lets you stream to Instagram via traditional streaming tools rather than just relying on your phone.
This is a great application for the Aitum Vertical plugin (which we've covered in an earlier edition of Learn OBS Studio).
But I thought it would be a great opportunity to take you through the steps of going live to Instagram in this fashion.
Note that you will need to have a Professional account on Instagram to use Live Producer.
Turn your Archive options on in the Instagram app
Instagram Live sessions from Live Producer won't be saved by default, so it's important to turn on your Archive options in the Instagram (phone) app.
Go to settings, Archiving and downloading and then toggle on Save live to archive.
You can also set up OBS Studio and the Aitum Vertical Plugin to provide you with a local recording as well.
Go live with Instagram Live Producer
1. Click on Create and select "Live Video"
2. Add your livestream title
3. Select your audience: You can go public or use a practice mode
4. You'll be provided with a Stream URL and a Stream Key. (Note that the Stream Key will change each time you go live.)
5. Head over to OBS Studio. In the Aitum Vertical plugin dock, click on the Settings icon.
6. Paste the Stream URL and Stream Key information into the Streaming tab.
7. When you're ready to go live click on the Stream all vertical outputs button in the Aitum Vertical dock.
8. Return to Instagram. You should see your stream appear in the Preview portion of the window. Click Go Live.
When you've completed your livestream, click End Live Video. You'll be prompted to Discard the video, as long as you have previously turned on the Save live to archive option you will still have a version you can download from the Instagram phone app.
