Tokyo awarded 2020 Summer Olympic Games
Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee, announces Tokyo has beat rivals Istanbul and Madrid for the right to stage the Games for the second time.
Tokyo capitalised on its reputation as a "safe pair of hands", defying concerns about the Fukushima nuclear crisis.
The Japanese capital defeated Istanbul 60-36 in the final round of secret voting by the International Olympic Committee.
Madrid was eliminated earlier after an initial tie with Istanbul.
Tokyo won the right to stage the sporting extravaganza for the second time, having hosted in 1964 when the Games first went to Asia.
For Istanbul it was a fifth unsuccessful bid to host a summer Olympics.
