In Juniper Networks terminology, IRB stands for "Integrated Routing and Bridging." Similar to an SVI on other vendors equipment, it allows the switch to perform inter-VLAN routing - creating a logical interface that combines routing and bridging capabilities. It can also allow devices to communicate with each other without the need for routing through bridging.
