Deep Fakes, Synthetic Content & Generative AI
In this episode, I talked to Noelle Silver Russell (Microsoft MVP, AI) Noelle is an AI expert leading the Global AI Solutions team at Accenture. With experience in AI leadership roles at Amazon, Microsoft, NPR, and the AI Leadership Institute, Noelle provided an in-depth perspective on the evolving world of AI.
She started by sharing her journey into AI, from learning through training Amazon's AI systems to her experiences at Microsoft. The conversation then turned to the biggest concerns surrounding deep fakes.
We also discussed the increasing acceptance of AI-generated art and creative works. Noelle explained how generators and General Adversarial Networks (GANs) work, and how the technology has evolved over time.
We showed the NBA's app, which uses AI-generated content to put the fans in an actual NBA game. Noelle emphasized the positive uses of deep fake technology, including its role in entertainment, training, and simulation.
Noelle explained the fine-tuning process and debunked the myth that Chat GPT is taking over. She emphasized that Chat GPT is an engine, not a product, and its authoritativeness can be tuned to fit different needs. She highlighted the importance of user feedback in training GPT and predicted that Chat GPT would pave the way for the development of many other AI models.
Discussing the amount of data needed for AI models, Noelle assured the audience that, contrary to popular belief, huge data sets are not always necessary and that sometimes smaller sets can be better, specially when tuned to the specific needs of a company.
We talked about Microsoft and Meta's hackathon, Korea's deep fake newscasters, the role of AI in delivering bad news, and the importance of embedding verification into AI systems.
