Are you wondering how to do picture in picture for your next video project? Creators use picture in picture feature to present something from multiple angles, to add webcamera recording to gameplay or working alongside other projects. It's great for various tutorials or creative works. We've recently added this awesome feature to Icecream Video Editor, and today, we're excited to reveal to you how to do picture in picture with our program.

Get Icecream Video Editor from our website and launch it.
00:45 Step 2: Add Files to the Media Library
Before you start crafting the perfect picture-in-picture project, we need to add your files to the media library. Drag and drop your images, music, and video files into the designated area. You can also click the “Add files” button and do it that way. Keep in mind. You need at least one video file for this to work. Let's add those media files now.
01:12 Step 3: Add Picture in Picture
Once your files are uploaded, drag them to the timeline. Click the scene you want to add the picture in picture function to, then Click the 'PiP' button to open the options. Switch the radio button to the 'Choose Video from Media Library' position to select the file you want to use as picture in picture for your scene. Click 'Done' to confirm the selection.

Next, let's customize the picture in picture settings. You'll see the selected video file displayed as a new layer on top of the scene in the preview area. There are several settings you can tweak. You can choose different shapes of picture in picture, including a square, a square with rounded corners (by the way, did you know that it is actually called a squircle?), a circle, or you can keep the original aspect ratio of the video. All your changes are instantly displayed in the player and can be adjusted at any time.
You can reposition picture in picture to any location in the scene. Also, you can rotate it and adjust the dimensions using the markers on the frames as needed. Feel free to pause the video and take time customizing these options as much as you like. When you're ready to continue, you can move onto the next step.

Use the 'scissors' button to trim the file you're using as picture in picture, adjusting it to fit the timing of the needed section. You can adjust the timing by moving the yellow sliders and don't forget to click done to apply the changes.

Even after you've trimmed the picture in picture, you still might want to move it along the timing of the scene as a whole. Click the yellow bar and drag it to the preferred location. After you've created your masterpiece, click 'Done' to apply the changes. Great thing about the added picture in picture is that it stays on the initially set position even after you split the scene.
