This video explores the latest research to highlight the Heart-Brain connection.
Did you know that emotional stress and depression can significantly increase your risk of a heart attack (myocardial infarction)?
As a Consultation Liaison Psychiatrist working at the interface between medicine and psychiatry, I've encountered many patients—sometimes even young, physically fit individuals—who suffer significant cardiovascular events like heart attacks, often preceded by a history of intense stress.
We’ll explore how conditions like depression, stress cardiomyopathy, and chronic stress converge to create a perfect storm leading to serious cardiovascular events. We'll examine the roles of the autonomic nervous system, neuroinflammation, and frontostriatal circuits in this complex interplay.
Understanding these connections helps us minimize these cardiovascular risks and reinforces the importance of a holistic approach to health—where caring for the mind is also caring for the heart.
