Danny Trejo in conversation with Josh Kun at Live Talks Los Angeles
discussing his book, "Trejo’s Cantina: Cocktails, Snacks & Amazing Non-Alcoholic Drinks from the Heart of Hollywood." The talk took place on April 18, 2022.

A cantina-style celebration of Mexican food and drink, entertaining, and Hollywood culture in 100 recipes for nachos, tacos, and Danger Dogs plus cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks from the legendary actor, restaurateur, and author of the acclaimed Trejo’s Tacos

Danny Trejo is known for playing “merciless, shirtless, tattooed, gun-toting, vengeance-thirsty, knife-throwing tough guys” who’s become the face of a restaurant group selling award-winning tacos, authentic barbacoa, and kale salad. His life story is, as the New York Times Book Review has said, “enough to make you believe in the possibility of a Hollywood ending.”

In his Trejo’s Cantina: Cocktails, Snacks & Amazing Non-Alcoholic Drinks from the Heart of Hollywood, the actor-turned-restauranteur reminisces about his upbringing in Los Angeles, from barhopping with uncles on Olvera Street to his memories of sneaking into movie theaters to cool off while watching films wide-eyed and inspired—memories sandwiched between recipes and drinks that celebrate his traditions and his spirit..

Actor Danny Trejo has starred in dozens of films, including Desperado, Heat, From Dusk Till Dawn, Con Air, Boba Fett, Grindhouse, and Machete. A Los Angeles native, Trejo began building his restaurant empire in L.A. in 2016. He now has six locations. This is his third book.

“Danny’s incredible life story shows that even though we may fall down at some point in our lives, it’s what we do when we stand back up that really counts.” —Robert Rodriguez, creator of Spy Kids, Desperado, and Machete

Josh Kun is an author, curator, and cultural historian. A MacArthur Fellow, he is a professor in the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. He is an author and editor of many books and anthologies, and the curator of numerous art, music and public humanities projects. His book To Live and Dine in L.A.: Menus and the Making of the Modern City, was based on the special collections of the Los Angeles Public Library.”
