The E190-E2 is one of the newest passenger jets in the world and was officially launched at the Paris Air Show five years ago. The single-aisle aircraft will be used for shorter hauls as a regional jet for most airlines because it has a range of 3,200 miles. Embraer even claims the E2 is more fuel efficient than the Boeing 737 MAX family and Airbus A320neo family.

Lançados no Show Aéreo de Paris, em 2013, com a entrega do primeiro modelo, um E-190 E2, no dia 4 de abril de 2018, para a empresa norueguesa Widerøe
Em novembro de 2011 anunciou o desenvolvimento de versões renovadas da família E-Jets, ao invés de aeronaves totalmente novas. As variantes competiriam com os Bombardier CSeries, da Bombardier. As principais novidades seriam o aumento da fuselagem e na capacidade de passageiros, novos motores, trem de pouso mais alto e, possivelmente, um novo alumínio ou fibra de carbono na asa. A Embraer nomeou este projeto como "Os E-Jets da segunda geração".
