When muscle fibers expand, cells in the tissue known as stem cells multiply rapidly and combine with the fibers that are already present to generate a greater volume in the cell. Strength training and other forms of physical fitness result in the addition of new nuclei to muscle cells. Even after extended breaks in training, these additional nuclei remain. Muscle memory is produced as a result of these nuclear additions. As you start to train more, sufficient nuclei will be transferred to your cells.
