Why do programmers say things such as X is an antipattern?
Any such sentence is wrong.
You will hear the service locator is an antipattern.
Or that an empty interface is an antipattern.
A marker interface is an antipattern, too, some say.
Absolute rules are the last refuge of the incompetent.
Very few rules hold without specifying context.
A service locator decouples the consumer from services it doesn't need.
An IoC Container is a good service locator.
Empty interfaces are used regularly in evolutionary design.
Have you any objections to evolutionary design?
I didn't think you had.
An attribute cannot apply to object assignments, such as in generic constraints.
A marker interface remains the only solution that works.
Those who oppose marker interfaces should try to constrain a generic type with an attribute.
Yeah, that won't work, I know.

👨 About Me 👨
Hi, I’m Zoran, I have more than 20 years of experience as a software developer, architect, team lead, and more. I have been programming in C# since its inception in the early 2000s. Since 2017 I have started publishing professional video courses at Pluralsight and Udemy and by this point, there are over 100 hours of the highest-quality videos you can watch on those platforms. On my YouTube channel, you can find shorter video forms focused on clarifying practical issues in coding, design, and architecture of .NET applications.❤️
