HOW TO FIND KICK PITCH FL STUDIO | How to Find the Key of a Kick Edison Tutorial FL Studio Pitching

In this video you'll learn how to find the pitch of a kick in FL Studio. Kicks are always made on a certain key (or note). Sometimes you need to know this key to keep your song or kick-layering musically correct.

To find your kick pitch, open the sampler and right click on the waveform. Then select "Edit". The kick sample gets "transferred" to the Edison plugin in FL Studio. With Edison you can find pitches of samples.

The only thing you have to do now is:
- right click on the waveform
- select "Regions"
- click "Detect pitch regions".

Edison will now show you these orange marks. In this example, it says "G2". This means your kick's pitch is at a G note.

Let's do the same for the next kick sample. Let's see if we can discover its pitch. Again, right click on the waveform and click "Edit". The sample will appear in Edison again. Now click right on the waveform, select "Regions" and click "Detect pitch regions". And there you have the orange mark again. This also happened to be a kick made on a G note.

Let's try a different type of kick this time. But use the same method. Right click on the waveform and select "Edit". In Edison find the pitch regions. Well, it says "F2" here. This is a kick made on an F note.

The last sample is more like a trance kick (EDM kick). Let's see how Edison detects the pitch regions in this one. Now what do we see here: two different marks. The first says "F3", the second says "F#2". So, what is it? An F or F# kick? When you got something like this, it's typically the last mark. Why? Because the last mark detects the tail part of the kick. The tail part contains the fundamental frequency. The attack part has a pitch down "sweep". This can result in different pitches detected by Edison. So, it depends on the kick sample. Sometimes Edison recognizes a bunch of pitches. The tail part is almost always the correct key. In this case F#.

There's a way to test this, but you have to use your ears a little bit. This is also a different, but more subjective way of finding the right kick pitch. Just make a simple sound with any synth you want and draw a few notes on the piano roll. I'll draw G notes, because I want to test the first kick. Preferably, pick lower G notes to create a heavier sound. G3 works well here. Can also add another G layer, G4.

I'll show you the Edison's pitch detection for the first kick sample again. It definitely says "G2".
