Have a good camera but no mic input? Need better audio quality for vlogging? In this video hack 2018 I show you how to record an external microphone on to your smart phone with minimum costs.
Recording audio from an external microphone on an iphone should be an easy thing to do but many people have found that it is not as simple as it seems and using a 3.5mm microphone. The only place you can plug in a microphone is in this headphone jack. I’ll need an adapter cable which splits the audio connections to and from the phone into separate jacks.
With this adapter, you can use any 3.5mm external microphone with your iphone device including a lavalier microphone. You can even plug in a set of headphones in the other side of the adapter to monitor audio as well. I hope this video helps you go about using an external microphone on your iphone.
*BACKGROUND*
This was something I wanted to do to get better audio quality for vlogging. This technique can be used for any sort of video without needing an external recorder or mic input on your camera.
I'm using an iphone 6S and use the voice memo app however this will work on any other audio recording apps or any smart phone that allows a hands free kit via the 3.5mm jack using a microphone splitter.
Record External Mic without Mic Input. I have recently bought a Canon G7X and this has no mic input on camera. This is a really good solution for recording an external microphone for vlogging.
