Jerry T. Hodges Jr., a trailblazing Tuskegee Airman and proud World War II veteran, sat down with Veterans Legal Institute in November 2024 to share his remarkable story of service, sacrifice, and resilience. In this heartfelt interview, Jerry speaks about his life growing up, the historic role of the Tuskegee Airmen in reshaping American history, and the enduring lessons he wished to pass on to future generations.

Shortly after this conversation, Jerry passed away. Our Communications Manager, Marine Corps veteran Zak Lara, was deeply moved during the editing process and chose to honor Jerry’s legacy by leaving the interview almost completely unedited. The result is a raw, authentic, and deeply impactful narrative told in Jerry’s own voice.

This interview serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving veterans’ stories—not just as a tribute to their service but as a living history for us all to learn from. Jerry’s words echo the strength, humility, and courage that defined the Tuskegee Airmen and all who’ve served this great nation.
