Randolph “Randy” Howard (1946-2023) entered the Army in 1965, completed basic training, AIT, Ranger School and Jump School before deploying to Vietnam with the 1st Cavalry Division in 1966. As a rifleman with Charlie Troop, 1/9, Howard survived several close encounters with the NVA and was founded four times during the tour. Due to a clerical error, he returned to Vietnam after the Tet Offensive with the 82nd Airborne’s “Golden Brigade,” where he was wounded for a fifth and final time.
