Together with our partner, Samsung, we continue our journey around the USA, talking about real life in America. These are not stories about the American dream, but everyday life and the difficulties faced not only by emigrants, but also by local residents. Today our story is from the Appalachian region, a place with a rich industrial past (metallurgy, mining, engineering) and a not very happy present.
Our story begins in Athens, Ohio. Despite the fact that the Athenian region is one of the poorest in the Appalachians, the city has a powerful university that attracts students from all over the world. But, as the heroine of our video Nadya says: “Despite the fact that there is a university here, many locals cannot afford to pay for higher education, and if you drive 10 kilometers from the city, you can meet people who simply cannot read.” So, the third episode from the series "Real America".
