Roger Christian is an English set decorator, production designer and feature film director. He won an Academy award for his work on the original Star Wars and was Oscar-nominated for his work on Alien. Dollar Bottom his 2nd short film won an Academy Award for Best Dramatic Short Film. Christian directed the second unit on both Return of the Jedi and Star Wars Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace.
Feature credits include The Sender, Nostradamus, Final Cut, Underworld, Masterminds and Joseph and Mary.
Directing award winning actors John Travolta, Patrick Stewart, Forest Whitaker, Sam Elliot, Rutger Hauer, Tcheky Karyo, F. Murray Abraham, Julia Ormond, Denis Leary, Joe Montagna, Brenda Fricker and many more Christian has a wide experience in all aspects of filmmaking.
Director of many global TV ad campaigns and music videos including Duran Duran’s Arcadia Election Day and documentaries like the Star Wars 30th exhibition at County Hall. London. UK: Theatre productions include Conversations with Leonard Cohen.
Christian has given motivational lectures on film and life to students globally from China to Malaysia, UK and US at colleges, schools, and the growing number of Fan Expos. The constant stream of requests for advise on all aspects of filmmaking in podcasts and interviews are the basis for his forth coming one on one mentorship series. Inspiring all ages of students of film with his experience have motivated several successful careers in this fascinating industry. His book Cinema Alchemist: has inspired colleges in the US to change the structure of their film course.
Christians next book is titled WE CAN ALL BE HEROES, linking his experience in film and spiritual life to the incredible journey of Luke Skywalker going deep into mythology and legend. Written as a guide to everyone to find what the great mythologist Joseph Campbell calls the bliss inside us all and the reason Star Wars has connected globally like no other movie before or since.
