This is the first thing you should do in a new AWS account. Also known as how to enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on AWS. It's absolutely something you should be doing with your root account and something you should also strongly consider for any user accounts that get created as well. AWS supports both hardware and software MFA so you've got a lot of options to choose from.
