San Diego Comic Con is a titan of the comics, superheroes, and movie industry, and with SDCC 2019, the city of San Diego is abuzz with the latest news and SDCC 2019 trailers for movies like Terminator Dark Fate, Top Gun Maverick, It Chapter 2, and so many more. But before Star Wars, the Avengers, the MCU made geek go mainstream, SDCC had humble roots. The history of San Diego comic con, like the larger history of comic con as a concept, goes back to the early 20th Century, before we were reacting to comic con trailers and SDCC trailers, waiting in line for merch, and working hard on our cosplay.
As the years went on, right up to SDCC 50, Comic Con grew from a small gathering of nerds to the most important moment of the nerd year, and throughout the evolution of San Diego Comic Con, it’s taken the world of pop culture to all new heights. But the evolution of Comic Con is about more than simple regurgitation of SDCC trailers, or waiting to hear from DC and Marvel. Comic Con is about coming together as fans under one roof and celebrating the art and experiences we hold dear.
