Join us at a cozy German restaurant, Brotzeit in Bonifacio Global City as we raise our glasses and dive into a heartwarming conversation. We’re sitting down with Juergen—a seasoned traveler, SAP veteran, and now a retiree in the Philippines, who also happens to be a good friend of mine.
Juergen’s tale is certainly a delight to listen to. His career was a big push into his adventures,. While at SAP, the on site training courses he was running, took him across continents. From bustling Johannesburg to the sun-kissed beaches of Australia, the vibrant streets of India, and the futuristic skyline of Singapore, he collected stories, connections, and a love for exploration.
It was his brief stint in the Philippines though that changed everything. The warm smiles, the lush landscapes, and the laid-back lifestyle captured his heart. Juergen returned, this time with his Filipina girlfriend by his side. Together, they crisscross the archipelago, savoring local delicacies, dancing to the rhythm of fiestas, and marveling at sunsets that paint the sky in hues that the Philippines is really known for.
We then do a deep dive into the Filipino spirit—the genuine warmth, the resilience, and the near universal hospitality. From my Ukrainian-American perspective and Juergen’s German lens, we explore how locals view Westerners. Spoiler alert: It’s with open arms and curiosity.
