Add swap space by creating a new swap partition in Centos/Redhat 6. Swap Space is required in linux systems when the physical memory or RAM is full and there is no RAM avilable for processes to run.Swap space is used as a memory which created on system Hard Disk as a partition. If new process on system requires physical memory to run and the RAM is out of space, then swap partition is required to sort out this issue temporarily. If the physical memory goes out of space, the in-active pages in RAM are moved to swap partition on hard disk and once the in-active pages moved to swap, the physical memory on system is free and is avilable to serve the system needs. If your system is mostly running out of memory then don't think swap partition as a replacement of more ram because access time of hard disk is much slower then RAM.so, its better to increase or add more physical ram to avoid shortage of RAM.
