Donner Pass and the TREACHEROUS Descent into Downieville: NorCal BDR Day 3 (Sections 4 and 5)
Day 3 of my NorCal Backcountry Discovery Route adventure was an eventful one. After waking up before dawn at Big Meadow Campground on Section 4, we packed up our motocamping gear on our bikes (2024 KTM 790 Adventure, 2024 Suzuki V-Strom 800DE, and a 2024 Moto Morini X-Cape 650) before being joined by Ken on his Aprilia Tuareg 660. We finished off Northern California BDR section 4 before stopping for lunch in Truckee. Afterward, we stopped at the infamous Donner Pass before continuing our NorCal BDR ADV bike trip onto NorCal BDR section 5 headed toward Graegle.
We rode our ADV motorcycles past a ton of beautiful remote lakes before heading up onto a ride and then starting the massive steep descent into Downieville. This road was not for the faint of heart.
